NDIS Physiotherapy & Disability in Australia: What the Data Shows

At Elite Strength Melbourne, we believe that inclusive, accessible physiotherapy is not just important for individuals, but for the whole community. The data highlights why our work matters:

  • 1 in 6 Australians live with a disability. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, disability affects millions of Australians, making access to the right support services essential.

  • Adults with disabilities are more likely to be physically inactive. AIHW data shows that people with disability are less likely to participate in regular physical activity compared to those without disability. Our mission is to change this by making exercise safe, motivating, and achievable for everyone.

  • Staying active helps improve health, confidence, and community participation. For more information on adaptive sport and recreation opportunities, we recommend visiting Disability and Sport Australia.

By combining physiotherapy and personal training, we aim to reduce these gaps, improve daily function, and help participants live with greater independence and wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What qualifications do your Physiotherapists have?

Our head Physiotherapist, Mark, is a fully accredited physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience supporting people with disabilities. His dual expertise in physiotherapy and personal training ensures every program is safe, effective, and clinically sound. Mark has a Masters Qualification in Physiotherapy Practice.

How do you make sure my Physiotherapy plan aligns with my NDIS goals?

We begin with a free, no-obligation consultation to learn about you and your NDIS goals. Whether your focus is improving mobility at home, building strength for daily activities, or increasing community participation, we create a tailored program that directly supports those outcomes. We also track and document your progress against your plan.

Can you work with my support coordinator or plan manager?

Yes. We regularly collaborate with support coordinators and plan managers. We provide clear service agreements, NDIS-compliant invoices, and progress reports to make the process simple and transparent for your whole support team.

What happens in a typical Physiotherapy session?

Sessions usually run for 45 to 60 minutes. The session will be highly dependent on your goals, current abilities, equipment as well as other factors such as fatigue. We will ensure the session is highly specific to your goals and work with you on ongoing communication for feedback.

I have limited mobility. Can I still participate in Physiotherapy?

Absolutely. We specialise in adapting exercises for all abilities. Sessions can be held at our clinic or in your home, and we use modified equipment and techniques, including seated and bodyweight exercises, so you can safely build strength and confidence.

Is NDIS physiotherapy and training covered under my plan?

Yes. If your NDIS plan includes funding for Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living or Improved Health and Wellbeing, our physiotherapy and personal training services can be funded through those categories. If you are unsure, we are happy to review your plan with you or speak directly with your support coordinator.

Do you offer in-home sessions as well as clinic visits?

Yes. We can deliver sessions in our clinic, in your home, or even in the community. Many participants prefer the flexibility of training at home, especially if travel is difficult.
